Birdwalk on the Wild Side-Alaska

Linda Ballou

Bird Walk on the Wild Side
In
Bartlett Cove – Glacier Bay, Alaska

Three-quarters of the nearly 500,000 people who visited Glacier Bay last year to view the more than sixteen glaciers that descend into the pristine waters from the St. Elias Range, never put a foot on dry land. They were confined to view the spectacular setting and to try to experience the wildlife in the bay, that includes over 220 avian species, from the deck of enormous cruise ships. They remain unaware of the option to stay at the rustic Glacier Bay Lodge, with a dining room serving three meals a day, tucked neatly into the spruce trees that line Bartlett Cove.
